Musical single on the cards

Kunjani will shortly release a single, 'Msodzi the single' by mid March this year. The beat, which is a fusion of traditional Ngoni and hip hop, will among other issues address beliefs and solutions relative to beer drinking.

"We want to entertain our fans in a more exciting way. After the newspaper series, we thought a musical album in the lines of Kunjani theme would do them great. It is about fan and learning from it all," says cartoonist Lip smile.

The single, being recorded at Eclipse Studios in the capital city Lilongwe under the professional production expertise of Bleek the R n B crooner, will not just entertain, but also defuse some tension and negative hype about beer drinking.

The single will be on both CD and DVD and an animated video will be released soon alongside the audio to stations across the country.

"The relycs are age friendly. Everyone can listen to them. There is no pornography and sensitive content. We mean to reach out to all, particularly our rural fans," he adds.

An animated television series is also being planned.

KUNJANI the best ever local cartoon

Readers have claimed that KUNJANI, a cartoon character which appears in the Malawi News every Saturday is probably Malawi's best local language creation.

Fans calling herself Mercy in Area 23, and another Mchinji resident called creator and cartoonist, Lip Smile, to congratulate him about the drunken but wise cracking toon-man.

"I am a great follower of Kunjani and I wish to congratulate you for this great character. Please keep it up and I am always buying the paper for him," said the Mchinji fran.

On the other hand, Mercy wanted to know what Kunjani means and was well informed the open-meaning name coudl mean 'Wosup?, 'Tsopano?' etc.

A web search shows Kunjani as a Zulu and Ngoni word that also appears in several Bantu languages across the African continent with an almost similar meaning.

Meanwhile creator Lip Smkile has announced he will be branding T-shirts and other promotional materials after the stunning character.
